how do you let go of things when you regard decisions you’ve made as “mistakes”? like the only solution i can come up with is to give it time, but in the present moment i keep running in circles in my head, that things could have gone differently or had a better outcome and i don’t like being in this state of irritation with myself or blaming myself for the way something went, but i also don’t know how to shut up my inner critic

Maybe this isn’t the response you’re looking for, but I pretend to be a happy Buddha and laugh at myself. I just think about how minuscule my mistake is in the scope of the universe. And my mistakes contribute to my humanness, my ability to experience my life. If I don’t feel my mistakes I am not experiencing life. So I turn those mistakes into joy. It’s been a long time coming of forgiving myself all the time though 😅

I talk to my inner critic directly and ask it why I should carry guilt and shame for these mistakes. As soon as I confront that voice directly, it weakens and backs down. It can never give me a good answer. I usually do this by going on long walks.

such a relatable question. It’s really tough when you feel stuck in the cycle of second-guessing your decisions, especially when you can’t seem to quiet that inner critic. I think one way to approach this is by shifting how you view the idea of “mistakes” in the first place. Mistakes are often framed as failures, but what if instead, they were just learning moments, a natural part of growth? Sometimes, letting go involves acknowledging that you’re human, and that you don’t need to be perfect to be worthy of peace.

so i’ve found for me that some of this is tied up with our impatience with the reality of our current condition @christopher and i had a fun conversation about this a few weeks ago! maybe it will help you feel a little better about it? https://www.youtube.com/watch/51zN6-5GrPY

I think that if you’re able to acknowledge that they are mistakes than you have made the work and recognized something. It’s the most important - after that it’s important to let go. It’s hard but we are only humans and we will make more mistakes 🙊
