had a convo about “if purple app isnt discussing runes and its the biggest crypto moment in months why would i use it” touché and good Q only answer i have is purple/blue app are wildly different ecosystems with different verticles flourishing there’s rune-equivalent innovation that only exists on farcaster

No normies are EVER going to do anything on BTC DeFI for 2 reasons 1) the cost 2) the barrier of difficulty is far too high Normies onboarding onto the purple app and playing around in Web3 on the hand, that's inevitable. I'm a veteran in this space and can't be arsed with BTCFi tbh, profits or not.

Very accurate way of looking at it but do think its very valid that convos around Runes and other metas not happening on FC is def a blocker to it scaling to all of crypto. I see FC as an ecosystem largely focused on L2s (primarily Base) and onchain social 1000 $DEGEN

some of us hold the opinion that runes, ordinals, all that shit is spam for bitcoin and should have been stopped from the moment it started, the network wasn't built for it and satoshi made it clear that the extra return data had an intended size limit that these use a bug to work around

I don't think this explains it fully, and know there are folks into ordinals, yet I haven't seen much discussion on Runes pop up. Theory - folks only have so much bandwidth and the innovation happening on Farcaster is absorbing a lot of energy from folks here. I experience this directly bouncing between Sol & Base.

Nobody on farcaster really understands what’s going to happen to runes. Remember when you faded ordinals @threadguy until you didn’t months later? That’s where we are at with runes right now. That being said, it’s ok that people here are more interested in other things!

Runes are overrated anyway, CT is in a diluted fever dream over them. Anything with minimal onchain footprint that could effectively be retroactively stripped out of transactions under pressure from outside entities isn't something I'd get near.

too much tribalism the Bitcoin maxis who are most excited about Runes are too closed minded to consider a protocol that uses Optimism for identity management and a lot of the ETH / Base mfers farming Degen are stuck in their reply guy echo chambers
