i like how durov in the interview repeats that people are smart and that's why they switch to telegram for privacy

when in fact it is the polar opposite: people are stupid enough to believe that the only popular messenger without e2ee is somehow "private"

your tg messages are stored on the servers in plain text

i know and i agree, although i think telegram's current network effects have us locked in

this cast is less about telegram/e2ee and more about crypto's own discrepancy between stated / revealed preference, especially when tribalism arises

the point is

most 👏 of 👏crypto 👏 does not 👏 care 👏 about 👏 privacy 👏 when 👏 tribalism 👏  is 👏 at 👏 play

telegram 👏 does not 👏 use 👏 e2ee

(except secret chats but literally no one uses them)

i think it’s just an inertia thing - and signal didn’t have handles until recently 

t.me/jdille is way more aesthetic than the signal link and also easy to remember

I still find the preference for Telegram over Signal a bit odd. I know it's shinier, but Signal is arguably more private and secure.

if you use telegram because you care about privacy and e2ee then you didn't get the message at all.

Telegram is not E2EE and not private! 

One needs to manually turn on E2EE in Telegram and most don't!

Well timed as I’m talking to a guy today who is all in on decentralisation but a large part of his biz plan is buying a ton of web2 profiles and selling the customer behaviour data from them? Ends justify the means ??

psa: telegram is not e2ee unless one uses the secret chat feature

Arguably nothing said in text form regardless of encryption is private thanks to screenshots. Just assume you have no privacy online and conduct yourself as such.
