I still find the preference for Telegram over Signal a bit odd. I know it's shinier, but Signal is arguably more private and secure.

i think it’s just an inertia thing - and signal didn’t have handles until recently 

t.me/jdille is way more aesthetic than the signal link and also easy to remember

Signal is e2ee by default which Telegram is not. The tradeoff is that it's easier to use Telegram on multiple devices while Signal is a bit of a pain for that.

It feels a bit to me like features and signaling are more important to people than actual privacy/security.

Why did the Prius do so well when there were other, arguably equal or better, hybrids available? The leading theory is it looked unique which sent a stronger signal about the owner's supposed values.

more people are on telegram and they are easier to find on telegram
