curious. who on farcaster would be willing to: a) explore Mars (eg short-term visit for R&D purposes), or b) settle Mars (long-term aka lifelong visit for colonization to make humanity multi-planetary)? what would make you willing to do this? and why would you do it?

Before kids - would go if there were at least 150 people. Now - would go if ~100k+. I would be also want a way to mitigate the impacts of spending a long time in low gravity.

I live with the assumption that I will be doing B. and we will see humans being multi-planetary in our lifetime I know it will be a miserable and gruelling experience but I want to do it for the evolution of the human species and the sense of exploration

I'd do B. I think I'd sign up for most things that were novel, purposeful, and good for humanity. Also, space is cool.

No interest in either. If “exploring” the purpose there is no way anyone could explore all of Earth in their lifetime (& I don’t mean just tick off each country). I would like to be part of transforming our existing home rather than giving up on it. Wonder if we’d do a better job of being a planet colonisers…

Mostly depends on the travel imo- a flight currently would be about a year to/from at best, with future technology maybe 6 months. I would live there for 1-3 years probably with ~500+ people if I had a direct purpose, otherwise it’s more like a vacation. Rather visit the moon for that. I don’t feel useful atm

def. b, but to be realistic, mars colonies are much farther off than moon colonies & o'neill cylinders bezos is correct- the dist. & orbit are huge issues. once starship is up and running, we'll be focused on building near-earth / earth-moon lagrange point infra https://youtu.be/GQ98hGUe6FM?si=wVsPn1_LmSI9Ymfy&t=764

assuming no better alternative, I'd pick a) it's heavy enough for longterm stays, but is very much a half-measure for extraterrestrial humanity. settling gravity wells strikes me as a medieval concept when we already know we need multigenerational habitats in microgravity for interstellar travel.

Both. I'm 1000% willing to be part of the first batch. I always wanted to be an astronaut and honestly out there feels way more interesting than in here.

I would be interested in (a). Because I love learning and exploring. (b) seems out of reach for now considering our lifespan (and my age :D)
