some of these coffee shops don’t even make the croissants, so is the transportation and delivery really that expensive ?!!!

That $7 croissant better transport me to Paris with one bite. Otherwise, I’m filing a complaint.

After a lot of rationing during WW2, the economic European Union (precursor of European Union) implemented the communal agriculture plan to limit food shortages. This means food is often cheaper in Europe than in the US. Making changes to the plan is hard but starting 2027 there will be fewer subsidies for farmers.

kind of averages out because you currently earn at least 3x more than you would in the EU 😂

They are like $6 at this coffee shop I go to here in Atlanta. I’ve just weaseled my way into becoming a frequent patron & staying all day, so that they favor me & give me free treats now & then to make up for it. lol

My local coffee shop in Oregon charges $17 for a breakfast sandwich which is more than I used to pay in Santa Monica! Meanwhile a different shop down the street sells them for $6 so I’m not sure it’s anything more than “charge what people will pay” at the end of the day.

A croissant in Venice, California might cost seven bucks. In Venice, Italy? Just €2.50. But flying there from the California coast — with airfare, hotel, espresso breaks, and a few dreamy detours — brings your flaky snack to around three grand. Financially, it makes no sense. But you’re by a centuries-old canal, the light is golden, and that pastry tastes like poetry. The view back home isn’t bad either — but sometimes you’ve got to cross an ocean to remember how good life can taste.
