After a lot of rationing during WW2, the economic European Union (precursor of European Union) implemented the communal agriculture plan to limit food shortages. This means food is often cheaper in Europe than in the US. Making changes to the plan is hard but starting 2027 there will be fewer subsidies for farmers.
