A croissant in Venice, California might cost seven bucks. In Venice, Italy? Just €2.50. But flying there from the California coast — with airfare, hotel, espresso breaks, and a few dreamy detours — brings your flaky snack to around three grand. Financially, it makes no sense. But you’re by a centuries-old canal, the light is golden, and that pastry tastes like poetry. The view back home isn’t bad either — but sometimes you’ve got to cross an ocean to remember how good life can taste.
