i dont get why we need L3s/appchains - custom gas token doesn't really make sense, if gas is gonna be abstracted away and so cheap anyways as to be negligible - isn't base itself becoming super fast/cheap/high throughput anyways? are there really apps out there doing so much activity that base mainnet isn't good enough? also don't see reason for posting DA to S3 over celestia or smth.

i get the advantage of "onchain server" over like fiat/tradfi rails. but from what i've read, there is a centralization tradeoff here that does not yield any advantage versus other altDA solutions.

i managed to talk myself into L3s being interesting last year reality is there aren't many, if any apps yet that really need what they provide but it's a good narrative for future usage and adoption, a bit of a distraction from the now, and i can imagine scenarios where they'll be relevant

outrageous scale & control are the only 2 factors imo anything else and the upside is marginal for the headaches it introduces then that marginal upside is constantly being eaten away by progress anyway

flychain for blackbird might make sense for ex. super cheap chain for an app that would like to do its database in public

it's for the team to net profit from the gas fees, if it's another token then even more in their pockets with a good app the chain doesn't even matter at all, deposits are now easy from most of the chains (bitrefill, polymarket etc.)

99% of the world is still offchain and we need to move them onchain. going to require lots of blockspace. we already see some teams covering hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in gas. they want a dedicated blockspace option. kind of like on demand -> reserved for AWS.

The original Cosmos thesis for appchains made so much sense when they came out with it. I remember building with Tendermint as early as 2018. A lot of that value has gotten absorbed by current L2s. There's some lesson here about the risks of diverse innovative solutions in domains that move at breakneck speeds.
