i dont get why we need L3s/appchains

- custom gas token doesn't really make sense, if gas is gonna be abstracted away and so cheap anyways as to be negligible
- isn't base itself becoming super fast/cheap/high throughput anyways? are there really apps out there doing so much activity that base mainnet isn't good enough?

also don't see reason for posting DA to S3 over celestia or smth.

99% of the world is still offchain and we need to move them onchain. going to require lots of blockspace. 

we already see some teams covering hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in gas. they want a dedicated blockspace option. kind of like on demand -> reserved for AWS.

This is the actual answer, it's once block space is hard to acquire and is in scare supply. We have seen glimpses of this during high vol periods on chain but it's not yet sustained. Eventually, when/if Eth succeeds then there will be real scaling issues and it might make sense for certain apps to guarantee block space for themselves on their own chain. 

Currently the tradeoffs and friction are pretty bad though, see uncle block issues that Degen chain was affected by or the painful bridging process to and from these chains during liquidity scarce events.
