I used to think everyone should have kids. Then I had kids.

Very much the opposite, I was a "it depends" guy and now I'm like "suffering is good you cannot become fully human without it, embrace it to abandon self towards the path of undoing."

altho maybe i could make the case that having kids is rly hard and not everyone is suited for it, but even then i think i end up on the side of being a bad parent is better than not being a parent at all

not liking my odds being on the other side of the fence vs you three but my line of thinking stems from those moments when you're about to lose it but instead of yelling, beating or neglecting, you control yourself because you've got enough EQ. i've met people in my life who didn't have this ability at 15, 25 and don't have it at 40 - not with themselves or loved ones. now put them in those tough moments of parenting - no sleep, work stress, baby crying, etc. maybe the suffering and beauty of kids is the catalyst for change, but often times its the opposite. the fortune cookie cast in absolute terms ("everyone") is literal. i think there are some people who would, by default, bring up tormented children. there's also ppl who are mature across all dimensions but just don't want kids. ofc i have to disagree w them for a host of reasons yadayada but if they are genuine - why shove it down their throats? it's hard enough as is. imagine sincerely not wanting them too.

we can prob come to an agreement by saying "most people should probably have kids" and not "everyone should have kids" and agree to disagree that my most is a lot smaller that your most

fair conclusion! if i studied an entire population of parent<>kid outcomes i would probably identify a few where i go "yeah maybe this is actually net negative for everyone involved"
