Now that we're collectively in a bargaining phase of grief, two things can simultaneously be true: 1) someone can hurt you and shouldn’t be trusted again 2) they, like all humans, carry trauma and deserve compassion The lesson here IMO is learning how to protect oneself without closing your heart and losing your tenderness

Will continue sharing some stories I didn’t get to share while I was still in Ukraine. I got to meet Audrey MacAlpine, an American reporter based in Ukraine who covers the war for United24. I’ve been following her reporting and sharing her articles here on Farcaster, but her personal journey was so wild I wanted to share it too. Audrey is an amazing bluegrass-country singer (!!!!) and musician who was based in Nashville, Tennessee. She also played upright bass with the Grammy-winning Sierra Ferrell. When russia invaded Ukraine, she uprooted her life to volunteer and help. She became a humanitarian aid worker helping civilians in frontline areas, and now she’s a reporter covering the war - she is doing assignments on the frontlines, embedded with military units. She has also been reporting from Syria. She’s one of the coolest people I met while in Ukraine, and I hope we get to do something together when I return in a few months.

Turns out /farcon-nyc was exactly what I needed. I got the best mental break after working on the ground in Ukraine, met some incredible people, had amazing conversations, and the best time in New York. Feeling recharged and inspired, and ready to get back to work on our next @crystalhearts aid deliveries 🫂⛑️ Appreciate everyone’s support and kind words!
