But this is first and foremost a social network, and if we don’t get a little more loose and funky with it I think we’ll lose in the long run

Turned out I don’t have a wine opener at my place. I head down to a fancy wine bar on the other side of the street. Wearing only my evening kimono, I put a fedora on my head to up my game.

With a wine bottle in one hand, I open the big glass door to the bar. Everyone’s looking fancy surrounded by piano ambiance.

I go to the bar and say, "It's an emergency. I have wine but I don't have an opener. I'm making spaghetti. The pasta is cooking right this moment. I don't have much time. Can you open the bottle?"

I put the bottle on the marble without much grace.

3 people behind the bar look at each other and laugh. "Sure" one girl says, taking the bottle.

"Busy, huh?" I say. "Not as busy as you", a guy answers. We laugh.

The girl hands over the opened wine with a smile without a word. I say thanks and head towards the exit.

"WAIT" calls the guy. I turn back and see him extending his hand. "Take this" he says. It was a wine opener. I take it, nod, and run home to save my spaghetti.

It was delicious.

i love this, reminds me of living in NYC. most people really don't care if you are proudly doing your own thing, and if you stop to ask something of them, most often they'll help out, or go along with you, or say something back

I love the idea of people exploring and making friends around niche interests on here. If anything I think it should be more weird than it is. I just wish those interests could be something other than crypto. "grow with crypto" makes sense in theory, but in practice IMO it turns off everyone who isn't already in it.
