does anyone do the “do not have your phone in the bedroom” rule? or has experimented with it and gone back to having the phone in the bedroom bc it didn’t really do anything for you? how has it helped? how is it different from not using the phone after a certain time and still leaving your phone in the bedroom?

i’ve experimented with no laptop on the bed rule and it’s worked wonders for me for the past 18 months. oh and it always stays on the desk (when i didn’t have a desk, i left it outside on the sofa at night before i came to the bedroom)

you know how they say that if you have a sweet tooth and leave a bowl of sweets in front of you all day, you'll constantly be draining your available willpower all day? my phone is kinda like that, i often get random pangs of wanting to check it if it's on me or near me, sometimes i don't notice them if i'm not paying attention but they're there and have to constantly fight them in the background. especially if it's in my pocket. once i put it on DND in the cradle, it mostly stops though. that said, when my willpower is weak i'll often mess with my phone far closer to going to sleep than i'd prefer and it does noticeably impact my sleep quality after.

its a big improvement to sleep, but the only way i got comfortable with it was by having a digital or analog clock realized quite often if i woke up at night before (esp before becoming a dad) i was mostly curious to find out what the time was, and then got sucked into reading things if i have my phone

Have been trying this and if I throw it on a charger elsewhere approx 2 hrs before I fall asleep I fall asleep more easily and don’t check any markets overnight.
