While I mentioned academia specifically in my last cast about Bluesky, I've also noticed a lot of the cutting-edge discussions around finance, economics, markets etc. have steadily been moving to Bluesky. There's no reason Farcaster couldn't be a good fit for these communities, this is a once-in-a-decade opportunity. And no, none of these topics are about politics, since for some reason a lot of responses shoehorned politics into it.

ooo i’ve been looking for this any suggested follows or starter packs over there? agree—i just think it’s hard for a lot of academics to get over their instinctive “ick” factor when it’s anything remotely “crypto”

I see a reason. Farcaster is full of crypto people. Most people find crypto people repulsive. There is ZERO desire for normies to want to join this platform. I'm into crypto and I find the hustle/grind/creator crypto culture here cringe and boring af to read through most of the time. It's never going to happen, especially since bluesky is free and fits people's needs just fine. Farcaster offers nothing for these people. I asked some time ago if there were ANY non-crypto people on this platform, and it was crickets (basically nobody)

Bluesky has appealed specifically to this “expert” vibe - I don’t use it but have several friends who work in academia or finance who use it for this specific reason

A lot of people who are interested in decentralization just so happen to hate crypto, I don't know why. It's similar to AI people in SF who don't like crypto, or crypto people who don't like AI. Even though there's a lot of overlap between tradfi people and crypto people, they're still very distinct, and personally I think it will be impossible to convince the general public to be okay with crypto without the inflection of silicon valley patagonia bros who bring it up in every conversation.
