While I mentioned academia specifically in my last cast about Bluesky, I've also noticed a lot of the cutting-edge discussions around finance, economics, markets etc. have steadily been moving to Bluesky. There's no reason Farcaster couldn't be a good fit for these communities, this is a once-in-a-decade opportunity. And no, none of these topics are about politics, since for some reason a lot of responses shoehorned politics into it.

A lot of people who are interested in decentralization just so happen to hate crypto, I don't know why. It's similar to AI people in SF who don't like crypto, or crypto people who don't like AI. Even though there's a lot of overlap between tradfi people and crypto people, they're still very distinct, and personally I think it will be impossible to convince the general public to be okay with crypto without the inflection of silicon valley patagonia bros who bring it up in every conversation.

The idea behind why lots of decentralized people don't like crypto is they're under the impression that crypto exists as a way to siphon money from the poor, and that for decentralization to be "equal" (whatever that means), it can't be financialized. It doesn't make any sense to me because expecting a decentralized structure to be free would mean that you yourself are a validator in that system, which most of the time is not true for the average user, so it has to be financialized for the "work" of approving information to be outsourced.
