Would love to get back into history / historical fiction type reads. Who are some lighter and less dense writers to check out? Found McCulloughs 1776 pretty good in this direction

Have you read any of Mike Duncan's book? (Duncan did "The History of Rome" and "Revolutions" podcasts.) I found "The Storm Before The Storm" both a quick read and really informative about a period of Roman history that doesn't get as much attention as the later empire.

You might like Chernow’s biographies on Hamilton or Grant. I also liked Children of Ash and Elm about the Vikings. Steven Pressfield Gates of Fire is good historical fiction about the Spartans at Thermopylae

If you want a trip check out Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders. It’s about Lincoln’s son who died from TB and his imagined experience in the bardo (Tibetan Buddhist state between death and rebirth). Unlike anything I’ve ever read. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_in_the_Bardo
