Marketplaces that allow you to give away free stuff should let you charge if people don't show. It's free unless you don't come in which is $20. They're almost unusable as is because no-shows are so common.

The game of Risk is a good analogy for startups: - the goal is to win the world/market - to be in the game, you must hold space - holding space is the only way to accrue strength - can only attack adjacent space - if you attack too fast, you're spread thin and can lose space

Reading ancient history really makes you appreciate how good we have it post-enlightenment. The past is just 1000s of years of chaos and mayhem. Nazis trying to exterminate the Jews is the exception today but the norm in the past.

It's weird how I can sometimes fall into good sleep / bad sleep cycles. I get tired from the bad night of sleep so sleep really deeply the next night, feel great, but can't sleep that night restarting the cycle

"Marooned in Realtime" by Vernor Vinge (RIP) is really excellent. I really like quirky sci-fi detective stories like this, The Caves of Steel, Vimes books from Discworld, Dirk Gently, etc. Do you have any other favorites in this particular sub-genre?

Ancient cultures all had big rituals around planting crops. Part of it was of course was to plead to the Gods for a good harvest but... I wonder if part of the calculation was a lot of people just wouldn't plant otherwise? Like a lot of lazy people needed a big party to get out in the sun for 2 weeks and plant?

Working on a blog post this morning on protocols — liking my summary of protocols as the CAD Software & Machine tooling for mass manufacturing good outcomes. People/orgs often create bespoke protocols for good outcomes but Capital P Protocols is how we industrialize them.
