Would love to get back into history / historical fiction type reads. Who are some lighter and less dense writers to check out? Found McCulloughs 1776 pretty good in this direction

very light, and so amazing - "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", near-term history of Savannah Georgia - it reads like a novel but it's non-fiction - most excellent! Author = John Berendt also has a non-fic book on Venice, Italy
