For me, the mint-fee is too low at the moment. I think the already low earlier Zora fee was great. Not as much as a latte so affordable, but still enough to engrain the idea that art has value into the minds of the wider public. Now we're back to Web2 mind-set of content is free. That's not a good thing.

I think this is a very important point. It ingrains the idea that art has no worth. I understand that the price is based on a plan to have art more accessible to the masses that we all hope will one day join in but why is it always artists that have to pay this price? Everyone else involved gets their cut while artists have to play along in hopes of a payday some time in the future.

But it’s not free. It’s $0.35.

I’m not selling my photos for 30 cents. I’m arguably one of the best macro photographers in the world. So where do we go from here?

this isn't how erc20s work though. if superrare had invented this token model instead of using 721s the platform would not only still be relevant but disgustingly profitable. if you are as good as you say you should crush the platform, but you aren't even willing to test it.

zora's new protocol - am I wrong?

Because I haven’t minted using Zora’s latest protocol you’re attacking me? I was actually referring to Rodeo and I’ve minted on Rodeo and bought a heap of work on there, I just haven’t minted my photography. I don’t think your tone was warranted nor do I think I need to justify my opinion. Are you ok?

My tone was lost in text while multitasking - I didn't intend any judgement nor did I intend to attack you and I sincerely apologize. My intended point behind "if you are as good as you say" was to challenge your assumption that the token model *can't* be profitable for you. I happen to agree with you, but that wasn't the point. I think you'd be surprised at how you'd perform on zora bc mechanically you're not selling your works for 30c in the way that you are on rodeo. It costs only 30c to contribute liquidity. Bc erc20s are as fungible, a better framework for zora than editions is shares - its just liquidity. At a minimum, bc tokens don't launch until after 200 mints, each work is valued at $60. I believe they'll raise that that threshold at some point, but needed to start low based on previous mint prices. While the minimum to participate is 30c, there is no upper limit. If zora forced folks to mint 10 editions for example (around prev mint price), people would view things much differently.

Please be careful of the way to text next time because I really don’t need that in my life but thank you for apologising. If you read through my whole conversation, you’d see I was simply referring to the work artists are continually putting in with little reward. I like Zora’s new model with the 200 mint safety net but am trying to decide how I want to move forward with my work and that isn’t a conversation I care to have here.

Taken to heart, I'm sorry again Renée. I'll admit I was rushing and realize that's not a path for having a healthy conversation. As an artist, collector, and someone working on tooling I empathize with that feeling and want to help move the needle for everyone. Creators are the origin of the value chain and w3 products should be designed with that core principle. Despite my belief in the token model, I have plenty of gripes re: zora and am the first to tell them they aren't doing themselves a favor by copying the UX of an extractive w2 platform

I want everyone to win, I love the idea of using these cheaper mints to onboard the masses but until that happens, artists don’t get paid but their work is used to build the platforms.

It certainly feels and has felt like picking the lesser of evils. If we can't bridge the gap and answer "why collect?" with the current crypto audience, we have no hope to onboard the masses. Zora's protocol should be appealing to the existing audience, but the app experience is in opposition to the protocol in many respects. I do believe there is more potential there than anywhere else though. I'd be interested to hear about your feelings on rodeo after having created and collected on it

I find it much easier to use. You get kick backs if people mint one of your collects and it has the top 9 option to share on socials. It’s really easy to use. Admittedly, I haven’t used Zora as much so this isn’t a comparison yet. I can’t work out where my double click mints are going to so got bored and moved on for now. Another thing is FC doesn’t have an art collecting culture as much as the X community so far. I would love that to grow and change.

zora has referrals now too, and tbh they're more exciting than when i get mints. it's refreshing that more mints happen without socials involved, sounds like it's the same on rodeo too. top 9 was a nice idea too. personally feel like double tap + doomscrolling is passive and uninteresting, but that's also bc the zora feed is a little busted and shows repeats a lot. idk if feeds in general are the right format for consumption/collecting unless they are really good at discovery the fc one is a tough one, but am moving on some ideas on how to challenge that. if we can't get fc to care idk how we get anyone else to

Referrals and the use of social graph is a pretty exciting experiment. Generally we've found discovery to be better on @rodeodotclub because of the social graph. It's a huge step forward in our opinion because discovery is THE biggest issue for collectors & artists alike.

I agree that discovery is a very big issue. If that also includes marketing and distribution. That is hard work, and we need curators and intiatives like pkok to help with that. But, the biggest issue artists face is, imho, that web2 has taught the masses that content, including art, has no value. We need to build that value perception back up first, and pricing art at 30 cents does not help.
