See you there! 🙌🙌🙌 So much to do in Tokyo… food, sake, markets, onsen, temples, and lots of nature not too far by train - even still within the city. Stay a few nights in Kyoto, maybe look into a ryokan or shukubo stay for a night

Exciting! What’s the reason for the trip? Do you speak any Japanese? I’m very curious how well someone can get by there without speaking the language

If you're there for a month, you should def take the train to Kyoto for a weekend. Otherwise, a few (relatively, basic) suggestions below... https://i.imgur.com/USc94Hv.png

drip coffee at a "jun kissa" ("pure cafe" if translated directly) in the morning, eat ramen for lunch, walk around shibuya, harajuku, and roppongi, have sushi in ginza (or anywhere) and enjoy talks at "golden gai" in shinjuku.

Eat everything you can, it’s almost all delicious. Try to find tiny Izakaya restaurants and take your Google translate to figure out what’s going on. Better than that, just point at things and order them…they’re almost always delicious!

I don't remember to which one I went. But I had a great evening and talked to an old Japanese couple)

Golden Gai was the highlight of my trip, just be warned it’s very close to the red light district and the touts will be on you like flies.

Would also say make sure you do the Tokyo Metropolitan Offices (Tokyou-Touchou) just west of Shinjuku station and ride the elevator to the top. Great view of basically the entire metropolitan area (and you can see Mt Fuji on the rare clear day).

Man, I wish it hadn't been 15 years since I lived there. Depending on your jam, there are a million and one cool temples/shrines to explore. I don't think I saw it mentioned yet so Ueno park on the northeast side of the central Tokyo train loop is beautiful and has a ton of great museums around it.

Nikko is a great day trip, and there's a 7-floor stationary store called Itoya. I'm also a big fan of just looking around the different convenience stores haha
