“No, that’s Ether on Optimism. You want to send me — no sorry that’s USDC on Ethereum. Go up and press — what? No. That’s Base. A bit more and — huh? I think that’s Ether on Arbitrum. Wait, no. It’s actually Arbitrum on Ethereum.” This is the first year where usability on Ethereum got worse.

wallets are too low of an abstraction to be used by the avg consumer people don’t want to deal with protocols, networks, etc just let them send money to friends, buys things, etc

💯, that's why we need Superchain. Anyway, I'd take some UX challenges over $200 gas fees every single time :)

Totally agree. I'd like to think the ecosystem is doing a ~one step back to take two steps forward~ type thing but kinda feels more like two steps back to take one step forward 🫠

This is the roll-up centric future we deserve, not the future we wanted. Scaling by sharding is so much easier for the end user.

It's even more complicated when we look beyond EVM-compatible chains. https://warpcast.com/dawufi/0xfacce119

There’s plenty of room for improvement, but it wouldn’t be as chaotic if you’re mostly operating on one chain. Right now I do most everything on Optimism with a small amount on Zora and Base. But your average user will just use Base always. Free Coinbase wallet sends of USDC, pay cross-chain to mint on Zora etc

+1, wallet UIs are terrible and were not designed for the multi-chain future. They really should just consolidate similar tokens into one, displaying the main balance on the current connected chain.

kind of depends on your definition of usability. 2021 made it unusable for many cause of consistent 3 digit gwei; something roll-ups alleviate but the added complexity adds to an incoherence. superchain can at least abstract away most of this at some point?

Feeling the pain of this today as I navigate bridges and cross-chain swaps while thinking through year-end tax loss harvesting decisions. Three years in crypto and I still get jittery often, especially for complex transactions.
