IMO this is a big deal. Crypto is internet-native instead of SV-native

fc is bringing to light alpha that hid behind the scenes for years, but only the ultra curious find it even as someone obsessive about the crypto space for 7 yrs now, much of what is discussed and built in open on this app didn’t have a place before on ct, it only happened in back channels the shift has begun 🌱

I've found crypto to be one of the most humbling areas to try to build in. Competing against everyone with an internet connection with access to the all the financial capital in crypto.

I’ve personally felt this through people who have gravitated toward certain types of digital objects. Not necessarily the whales who bought in after price already appreciated. But the budget-conscious folks who collected when price was more accessible, and continue to hold after secondary market value increased.

as a data nerd, the clearest example of this is open data accessible through tools like @dune.eth think of trying to get a product analyst job at meta as a career switcher contrast that to a @bountycaster gig like this one https://warpcast.com/worm.eth/0xae8cf7a9 open to anyone, w provenance of work upon completion

Spot on about every industry. I’ve worked in the craziest and most prevalent of them in sports, film, and tech. One thing I’ve learned is don’t ever think the person you’re dealing with is smarter or knows more, just some times they’ve played the game longer.

I think this is a good take. And anyone intelligent enough to be self-reflective about it will say you're right, even if they are one of the ones used to getting that special access...

I would love to get in the room with a bunch of VCs I think what I notice is it’s more likely about the VCs behavior and opinions about crypto products is the disbelief in the people discovering these products more so than a lack of believe in the products themselves the need to be right, to be the discoverer

i think farcaster is an emergent product of this too. FB and Twitter closed off to devs a while (decade?) ago which drove the audience to be an attention product having an open space with payment, compute, social, etc built in flips that where anyone can build and connect. and produces a more merit-based community

Many years ago, I read “The World Is Flat” by Thomas Friedman. It discusses a level playing field for professionals due to globalization. Over time, the core concepts of this book have waned due to multiple factors. Connecting the dots, I reckon crypto has created a level playing field better than anything else.

There’s something special about those unskilled in the field they’ve entered doing really well within it. Trying to break down the things that landed them in that position is also a worthwhile activity…you may find out about their special intangible skills, which often makes it hard to see their value sometimes.

This has been startling to me. I'm a guy in southwest Missouri who is relatively new to crypto, and after joining WC, I already feel like an insider. I suspect this is because the size of the overall community is still relatively small, and the ratio of builders to consumers is low, so there is opportunity to get in.

"You no longer need to be in Silicon Valley" - this is the Internet+crypto paradigm, location agnostic For me it is always super weird to see crypto startup not-embracing these rules (OS was US-only on-site, etc). Looking forward for the next iteration: identity agnostic. ⬇️

love your takes! it feels good to be an insider, but that seems like a short-term play, mostly working in slow or declining networks. crypto is insanely fast so you are literally incentivized be open and inclusive.
