The best way to really get to know Helvetica is to watch Gary Hustwit's documentary. In it, important designers who are passionate Helvetica fans or critics have their say. Massimo Vignelli, who used Helvetica almost exclusively for his work, or Erik Spiekermann, who said: "Helvetica has become the white bread of typography.
