back from japan and going through all the photos! also coincidentally am on the market for new skis and bindings 👀 last day there was feeling frisky in 40cm of pow and dropped an extra large cornice at speed. one of my skis popped off and was lost to the mountain. Japan is the best though- nearby resort took all my info so fingers crossed they find & mail it to me in the summer! i was rocking shift bindings and am pretty sure the AFD shifted causing that ski to pre-release. I'd noticed some instability the day before but was suffering from pow-blindness. if you're also in them make sure to add the AFD to your pre-tour night checklist

thought it was interesting to compare the toolbar against twitter’s now that the wallet is rolling out think this highlights a core moat of an open social network- purer competition of builders/ideas (been thinking about this a lot lately) ai vs wallet twitter uses ai as a product, but on an open social network it’s always present in the feed anyway. commodified and competing against all the others will drive even better models in the open space. wallet on the other hand makes sense to be tied to the client (or handed off to a bespoke wallet) and separated from the feed directly video vs apps video just seems like a tik tok compete, and not fully fleshed out (could be wrong, don’t use it a lot). whereas apps promote _anything_ being built, not just consumed. we’re so so early in this, but I’ll always remember fb/twitter cutting off 3rd party apps right when they were starting to mature. no/minimal risk of this with an open network which will drive faster experimentation and solidify in new areas

meticulously planned a tour today. everything lined up weather, snow, avy forecast then we got to the top and saw this massive D2 avalanche exactly in the "safe" area (group for scale in the upper right) instantly called it and turned around. stay safe out there

noboribetsu's volcanic steam vents, the source of their onsen waters love visiting these dramatic, alien areas. the winter snow added a temperature contrast with the boiling water flowing under the boardwalk
