Nick Szabo has criticized Ethereum’s complexity using the concept of an “argument surface”. Similar to an attack surface, the argument surface expands with the number of that people can spend time quibbling over. This can bog down a community, and/or open it up to capture. "Governance minimization" requires reducing the argument surface.

This is one of the historically common justifications of sports - that it's an opportunity for pure tribalism and craziness and entertainment that acts as an outlet for those energies, draining them away from pursuits where they might do more damage if they interfere. Quite cringe to see literally everyone celebrating a decision some American government agency made on a tradfi instrument that will allow more retail users get exposure to ETH.

Yes it is a win for legitimacy.

But, I wish the same enthusiasm was shown about any of the actual uses of crypto we promise to the world.

I've had people ask me if ETH in the ETFs would also be "automatically staked" and thus perpetuating the dangerous notion of staking as being a risk free enterprise.
