I find myself getting more frustrated with my older son because A. He is exactly like me I’m aware of it and catch myself some times, but it’s a constant battle It’s as though I punish him for being the things I don’t like about myself

best way to approach that is to use those moments as a mirror to work on whatever it is in you! you’ll be amazed at how it transfers.

Be kinder to yourself. Compassion for others is a lot easier when you're not continually smacking yourself in the head. (This is advice which I struggle to implement too)

It’s great you’re catching this though, a lot of people wouldn’t want to do the introspection that provides this realization as they’d have to confront those things they don’t like about themselves Doing hard personal work for the sake of your children will always be fantastic parenting, keep it up man

yeah, youngest and I had this dance goin' on. great personal learning to be kind to something that rhymes with myself (indirect self-love) and it's such a 2 for 1 win on the days where I get it right. Love her and make her feel accepted even when tricky and subconsciously accept myself and all my flaws/quirks.

This is soooo true. When they mirror exactly what we don’t like in ourselves it becomes a trigger point.

I've discovered that parenting is an opportunity to improve ourselves and be better as human beings for the ones we love and take care of. Being cognizant of our emotional reflexes and responses is important.
