OK, so Boeing is famously falling apart largely because it has outsourced too much of its manufacturing processes, and lost the ability to control quality. Does outsourcing always have that result? Are there examples of organizations that have done this successfully, and what distinguishes them?

Boeing outsourced a significant portion of design and manufacturing, potentially sacrificing control over critical aspects. Successful companies outsource strategically, focusing on core competencies and maintaining oversight. @jahangir-hz @kawa1985 @kamal1987 @zohi @hadi1480 @hadi1580 @majid1983 @mersana1398

Most of Boeing’s recent issues have been largely due to really bad internal quality processes, mostly in final assembly at Boeing and not suppliers. Apple is the best example of outsourcing all manufacturing while maintaining quality.

japanese animes (also mangas but to a lesser extent) productions largely outsourced to studios in neighbor countries, but ideations still remain in japan so i guess it depends on which part of your product is outsourced, i.e. is it the core value proposition or not? gud question 500$farther

Outsourcing doesn't always lead to poor quality. Companies like Apple successfully leverage global supply chains while maintaining strict quality controls and strong relationships with their suppliers. The key is robust oversight, clear standards, and consistent communication to ensure high-quality output.

Polkadot outsourced its marketing to its “community” treasury and that seems to be going well

I noticed more cabinets are being made with material that is outsourced. Not necessarily of the critical life infrastructure or connectivity standpoint, but I find it fascinating. I can’t say that I know of an outsourcing unit that isn’t Apple (or Samsung et al) that hasn’t been a catastrophe. That said, Apple and Samsung have both had their blunders. Note 7 blowing up on airplanes, Apple telling us we were holding our phones wrong with the iPhone 4 antennagate. I suppose it’s going to be a big ask to find a company that has not had a mess as a result of outsourcing.

Outsourcing too much will lose core competitiveness, but quality control will lose balance
