No way. Discord has terrible UX if you want to use more than 5 servers. Many communities I know already moved to Telegram which is also bad, but still better than Discord. I see many web 2.5 Discord alternatives emerging and I think in the next 1-2 years we will see something new taking over.

They might do well to develop their own Farcaster client and use that..

Tbh discord is being used as a blunt instrument for quite a few problems. Great for community, difficult at conversion and convenience. I don’t think it goes away. I think it gets unbundled into email and a few other communication methods. I’d give up my email to not sit in 40 discords for instance.

I hate discord. Enjoying Threads right now with a team. It’s not ready for huge communities yet. https://threads.com/

for the next couple of years, yes. I wouldn't be surprised if a web3 native platform that addresses all of the current problems of discord emerges sometime in 2025 - 2026.

I tend to think our collective disdain for discord is because we’re all in 40 of them, not that any individual server is unpleasant to be in

clear that a crypto based app will win the security assumptions of discord are fundamentally flawed the issue is that none of the web3 discord alternatives match the polish/quality of discord right now i’m the founder of nftychat.xyz

Hopefully in the long-run but there's so many integrations that it will probably take some time.

What’s a reasonable alternative? I think we will see new technology eventually but not sure what immediate use case could make Discord irrelevant. Teamspeak / Ventrilo -> Discord happened largely due to Discord offering free service with the same tech.

No I think more will move to Telegram and other solutions bc. I don’t think Discord cares to cater to crypto and web3 communities

I think Noun's decision had several factors at play, and at best is a trailing indicator: most crypto Discords have been very dead for months. Anecdotally seeing more move to Telegram: more focused

I think the top 1-5% will make their own ecosystems (website, app, maybe even a place to chat) if needed, and the rest will use discord. The security problem is not a fundamental flaw, they just don’t care right now. It is not hard to add wallet auth, they just have no incentive to do that right now.

Telegram might lack the depth of a Discord server but its starting to feel like the superior option for NFT communities. There are so few of them that need more than a single channel. Thats not to say that people will adopt it. I agree with others that a web3 native solution is the way out

Discord is like a live chat with an awful UX. I think an asynchronous communication like Twitter and Facebook comments works better.

found that Discord is helpful for coordinating a group of people, but most helpful for giving support (like helpdesk) for projects. that said most Discords have way to many channels and are confusing. but the whole Discord thing surely needs some critical thinking to go forward.

Discord UI is messy, I don't think it's the way, it leads to too much noise, you cannot have a conversation with someone
