First weeklong trip without baby in Tokyo. Pretty good, but comparing to our last similar trip to Mexico City (before baby), it’s not the same. It’s great to walk around a foreign city at night aimlessly, something we love that we haven’t been able to do in a while. But we’re just yearning to get back. Don’t mind it at all, but maybe a good reason not to do your honeymoon nine years late 😅😅

#5 - san francisco a beautiful disaster I was doing my regular morning walk, and I looked to the left and saw, in a single frame, everything wrong with San Francisco. An empty lot rubbing shoulders with a dilapidated apartment building tagged to death with graffiti and a notice from the city letting the owner know that if he doesn’t clean it pronto, he will receive a fine from the city. I could exaggerate and say there was a crackhead folded over at the front door, but that was a couple blocks earlier. I digress… We have the worst of both worlds: We have the taxes of a socialist society and the services of a libertarian one. Take my money and give me nothing — brilliant! read more: https://sathaxe.substack.com/p/5-san-francisco

#4 - polarization not a big deal Are we more polarized than ever, or does this happen every time we get close to a presidential election? Probably a little bit of both. But with everyone terminally online, an ice-cold glow washing over the face of every family member sitting around the dinner table, something is definitely up. The phones aren’t just splitting us into tribes—we’re good at doing that on our own—they’re creating an endless supply of echo chambers. Hyperpersonalization is the fourth horseman. We all used to watch the same boring TV shows, and to be honest, it kind of sucked. Then we got HBO Max and Netflix, and suddenly we had options—a filter to see which friends have the same sense of humor. TikTok took it further, handing each of us a personalized feed. Soon, AI will create tailor-made content on demand. Read more: https://sathaxe.substack.com/p/4-polarization

#3 - healthy baby formula it's illegal! Like many new parents, I received a mountain of gift boxes when my kid was born. One was Tubby Todd’s Newborn Bundle. I used the lotion for weeks before flipping it around to read the ingredients list. Twenty-five ingredients? A standard lotion has maybe 8 to 12. And of course, it includes seed oil—brilliant. You might think you know where this is going—that I’m about to rant about how American companies cut corners with cheap ingredients to make a quick buck, health be damned. And while there’s some truth to that, the issue with baby products is even more sinister. It’s not about corporate greed; it’s about a system that actively blocks healthier options. read more: https://sathaxe.substack.com/p/3-healthy-baby-formula
