I'm still trying to figure out the culture of Farcaster. It seems very laid back here. Shorter posts (despite a longer character limit!), more chill. People just posting about their day. Few seem to be worried about "making every post good". For this reason, casts get a lot more replies than other platforms. It feels more conversational. Also, the vibes are strongly wholesome and positive. Almost suspiciously so. How have I not seen someone seriously disagree with someone else yet!? It reminds me a bit of Something Awful's BYOB forum circa late 2000s. On the downside (for me), there seems to be a lack of serious intellectual rigor. Take the image below: not much new is being forged here, philosophically.

When there is financial gain from social media, people will find ways to cut corners just for the sake of engagement. We’re all aware that getting replies esp on farcaster is directly tied to earnings, so it makes sense people will just post content they know will get clicks and $ Luckily it’s pretty easy to spot those sorts of posts, so it’s really in the users if they choose to engage, but hey, What you permit you promote

FC is a small town, and X is like Manhattan. The vibes are great for now but this isn’t the big leagues yet When we get scale, I expect this all to change

Yeah definitely more wholesome than Twitter or Reddit – although I’d say generally the larger the account the less spicy the posts (fortune cookie theory), so keep following new people! There’s definitely some beef but it’s often intra-Farcaster stuff instead of broader cynicism

there are lots of great in depth convos happening - they just aren’t surfaced as well as they could be right now + a lot of these occur in group chats (ask folks what % of time they spend in gcs vs timeline on warpcast) drama and disagreements definitely happen, just nowhere near the frequency they do on other platforms. right now the big one is rebranding warpcast to farcaster and merkle’s devrel/devcomms what kind of convos do you want to see more of? could probably direct you to a few folks/channels!

You don't really come here for new stuff, the network is too small to break much news. Rather it's a place to actually have good faith interactions. I would suggest replying to posts you find interesting and seeing if there are any meaningful convos that evolve, that's what drew me in at first

A lot of the more serious stuff is builder talk, and it can be difficult to follow. But there are a ton of people making stuff here, and you will see casts about all kinds of projects in waves. Then people go back to shitposting when they pass a phase.

idk much about coop but july is a very smart person and have discussed serious philosophical stuff at length on farcaster. Consider this post of his like a naval post - Looks shallow but only truly hits when you have enough experience. It is still a very simple post but not a shallow one. Also, yes there's drama here but it's more passive aggressive because the popular people here know each other. it is naturally hard to be down right insulting towards someone you have common connections/interests with. This will change as the network grows.

That's because disagreeing with real arguments gets you nowhere. Why should I put in the effort of writing a well informed post when everyone else is having "fun" with short posts. https://warpcast.com/sandman/0x3d91f76d

This is exactly how I am finding Warpcast to be. It's peaceful and feels good to share food pics or randome shots from the last trip without worrying about posts getting traction. Enjoying being early ig? It's like 5 AM in a bustling city. You know it won't be like this for long but since you are up early enjoy the time and do whatever without feeling seen or judged.

Good take, but you’re wrong! Ha just kidding, but you are right it’s much chiller here and less combative. However you’ll find disagreements if you look around With less than 300k monthly active users the pool is still small but of those people very high quality worth meeting! Check out some mini apps too. We have one to help meet people on Farcaster frame.intori.co
