One way to characterize an era, is to look at the extent to which ideas of "scientific rationality" and "freedom" are pulling in the same direction, vs in opposite directions. The answer flips back and forth surprisingly often! https://chatgpt.com/share/67abbbff-fec8-8012-b772-bade8a93c8b7 In more modern times, I feel like I've noticed a rapid shift from the 2010s, when the two were aligned (eg. see SSC rationalism) to the 2020s, where the two are perceived to be quite a bit more at odds with each other.

I've used AI for similar questions, particularly small contracts. I find it hard to trust the answers when asking for information pertaining to the laws of a specific country other than the US. Any tips?

I feel like I disagree with this approach to government efficiency: https://x.com/DOGE/status/1860739165144367441 The examples listed are a tiny fraction of all spending. If a government _optimizes_ for "don't make oopses that look bad on twitter", then it will end up missing a lot of valuable opportunities, and at the same time lots of actually-wasteful large-scale things will remain just because they look respectable. You _want_ a VC-like approach on small-scale public funding, that is okay with large quantities of oopses, because its goal is to make sure it captures the 1000x opportunities. Concentrate prudence energy on the large-scale stuff.

It's funny seeing some big accounts complaining, especially if you remember how they mocked whoever criticized the Starknet airdrop. That aside, they are right though. I got a small airdrop just because I hold a specific NFT, not because I was an early user, etc...

Welcome @optimism to the club of stage 1+ L2s! (meaning, L2s where the proof systems actually have teeth) I'm looking forward to seeing many more L2s join this club soon, especially some ZK ones.

One important difference between shards and rollups that I did not get into is *upgradeability*: shards would upgrade their EVM automatically, rollups need their own governance. But could we change that? (thread)

I may be using it wrong, but the Home tab seems useless. I get like 5 new posts per day and then it's just repeated stuff. I have to manually navigate to channels to see relevant tweets.

Geth v1.14.3 out (with v1.14.1 and 1.14.2 elegantly skipped courtesy of CI/PPA misconfigurations)! The release is a small maintenance release with some block processing and RPC API improvements. https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum/releases/tag/v1.14.3

If everyone around you often says "we live in a thoroughly X-ist society, it's horrible, and we need to switch to Y which is a refreshing new alternative", consider that you might actually be living in a thoroughly Y-ist society.

Probably worth noting that there are new risks associated. Like with most things, it isn't all upside.
