I have spent a long time thinking about this and one thing you have to be really careful about is straying into illiberalism when you get too lost in the food is poison sauce Yes the FDA food division is slow moving garbage Are we fat sick and unhealthy Yes But also Americans LOVE their junk food. And at a certain point with this you start getting into a dictation of personal choices right up there with vaccine mandates. Tough problem

I think a good compromise would be that coca cola gets to stay legal ban pepsi and also McDonald’s fries are legal still

You can have junk food without junk ingredients The 10% improvement in corporate profits from improved shelf life do not justify the massive negative externalities on health Its a corpo psyop to turn this into a liberty argument

I think everyone can make their own choice but I also think people need to better understand the choice their making. Vast majority don't know that the food they're eating has really terrible ingredients that haven't been tested. I also think it's ridiculous how expensive healthy food is. And when I say health I mean non gmo, pesticide free food.

you don't have to ban junkfood. You can just make it more expensive than healthy foods.

How about, companies are allowed to sell their overly addictive and oversized garbage, but they pay more taxes to help subsidize the cost of healthcare for all the people they broke?

I don't think its the food, it's the utilitarianism deeply seated in the American tradition. I don't think you can even attempt to fix it with regulation or prohibition

Yep, and enforcing product changes on a broad swath of American companies will raise prices and put many companies out of business. And you’re going to need additional government intervention to monitor ingredients and check compliance. Sorta shocked the conservatives are all about this tbh.

There's a lot of shit in our food. But the shittiest thing is our shitty taste for junk foods.
