One nice thing about peak woke was it forced people to be polite. People now are just like, saying slurs all over the place and it’s just not the world I want to live in. Think what you want but have some decorum in public you know?

It actually forced people to be scared of offending a particular group of people in fear of being cancelled. But I get your point.

I think there is a fine line between being polite because you were raised well vs being polite because of politically correctness and having to second guess your own words.

insane we’re at this point, and unfortunately the incentive for social giants is to stir the pot - at least to an extent

Yep. Simple respect has gone. Treat others as you want to be treated. An old concept that has been forgotten.

I think it’s also pretty normal in history to have these enforced social codes that keep order. The 1950s, the Victorian Era, Bushido era, etc. It doesn’t mean they’re always right or pleasant, but there’s a reason they’re so common.

the word "woke" being used as a derogatory term towards liberals is interesting and ironic because initially you were "woke" if you watched something and became a 9/11 truther. so like, initially, it was a self-congratulatory term that meant you were "woke" from what the government told you then I don't know what happened, and it became the opposite

I’m paraphrasing Charles Dickens in A Christmas Carol here, but it seems fitting. Kindness, charity, compassion, empathy…these gentler aspects of humanity are all but forgotten when interacting with one another. How poor in societal niceties and how rich in self-absorption and conceit we’ve become.

I’d link to think respect begins at home. Once I see people with no decorum in public and letting out such vulgar language. I feel bad cause I wonder what they were taught / how they were brought up.
