It's one of the first things I do in a new country! Also fun seeing what items get called For example saw Empanada China al Vapor in a Buenos Aires grocery story for steamed buns and never occurred to me they were basically empanadas too!

TIL America refrigerates eggs. Makes sense since we do at home but never thought about it in stores. Ditto the excellent grocery store orientation for a trip abroad. Try the peppered salami that seems to be basic minimart fare in Amsterdam, itโ€™s ace.

This is a great call. Grocery shop visits are a must when abroad, not just for the food and drink but also great way to get a feel for the culture, 30k+ curated products and marketing propositions tailored for a hyperlocal user.

Putting eggs in a fridge is required when you washed them because it removes the protective layer that naturally is on the shell. Chickens don't lay their eggs in fridges and they are totally fine. No need to wash them, just don't lick the shell. And the shell is porous so in the fridge, the egg takes all the odours.
