It’s an interesting reading, especially from a programmer/coder that found himself doing Art. And it’s perfectly right: Art = Ars is the action of doing, create from nothing. And it’s not necessarily related to functionality or something useful or at least understandable. The Art explains itself through the beauty, even though this beauty is visible only to the artist.

True. I was praised for the beauty of my code when I was working in that field.

As a self taught programmer I hate to think what someone who, is formally trained and, reads my code would think! It gets the job done though and I can understand it six months later most of the time 😬

Programming is so valuable that main stream thinking is all about its face value. Programming has always been seen as an art by its legendary practitioners. Books with titles like “art of programming”, or cute misguided use of words like “zen”, even “nature of software engineering” and the like of some Scheme course at MIT. Many of these books are from the last century a bit after the transistor came about. But they just touch passionate people I guess, and never get the spotlight. Thank you July for a fresh update, with a language that puts Love first :)

Agreed. It is an "art"! Just ask any artist. Conversely, it's dubious to call "comp sci" a science. @teleyinex.eth made a similar observation yesterday: https://warpcast.com/teleyinex.eth/0xe1e7b258

This. Is. Beautiful. I've always found it easiest to communicate with devs, who understand the act creation. Manifesting something from nothing requires a set of tools. All artists have them. Not exclusively, everyone is a creator obviously, but there is something to this ability to wrangle order out of chaos, the ability to manifest something usable, elegant, functional, intuitive, something that reflects and enhances the human experience. That is art. That is good code. Its why they seem magical when expressed in its highest form.

Hmmm when you put it like that. It makes perfect sense Writing code is kinda as much about creativity and communication as it is about logic. It's like crafting a story that others (and future you) can easily follow.

I think art is necessarily some what esoteric - tech or not tech doesn’t matter but product or not product does
