I really enjoyed reading Hillbilly Elegy several years ago. Inhaled it over the course of a few beach days the summer it came out. I remember enjoying JD's writing and thinking he seemed like a real good guy. I'm an optimist by nature, and I'm not blind to our problems, but I'm bullish on America today.

anyone who can write that well has something core to recommend for themselves, whatever else may or may not be.

I have not read the book, nor do I know much about JD, but curious if you could expand on how today specifically makes you bullish/optimistic. 

It’s not that I feel the opposite, I just continue to feel ‘meh’
