I was told once that statistically the smartest people aren’t tragically unhappy, just disappointed with reality. I don’t know how they sourced that data.

this would resonate with me if we replace “happiness” with “quality of emotions” i believe that the quality of our lives is solely determined by the quality of our emotions. intelligence to me then, ought to be in large part measured by our ability to optimize our lives accordingly

Probably not. There's good evidence to suggest that happiness is a reduction in thoughts in the brain. In a common view of intelligence, this would suggest that intelligence is counter to happiness, since intelligence = more thoughts. But i don't think that's quite right either.

As much as I love this, I’ve not found it to be true so far. Some of the most intelligent people I’ve met have often been the least happy. They’re often critical and unsatisfied with things around them.

Happiness is often a combination of resilience and adaptability - I find these to be better indicators of “intelligence” than other measures.

happiness arises from regulated high levels of serotonin and dopamine. Highly intelligent might find a way to build connections in the brain that leads to happiness
