1/ Let’s Talk About Expectations in the DEGEN Community As we continue building DEGEN together, I think it’s important to address something fundamental: what we should expect from one another. Right now, DEGEN is one of the only platforms where someone can earn hundreds of dollars with almost no authentic engagement—just by reposting low-effort or spammy content. Platforms like Google Ads or Twitter would never allow that kind of behavior to be monetized, and it raises an important question for us as a community: why should we?

2/ The truth is, this kind of farming and value extraction doesn’t contribute to the ecosystem—it dilutes it. When people prioritize spamming over creating meaningful content, the value of the entire community declines. It’s a drain on the people who are here to build something real, and it’s not sustainable in the long term. At the same time, I recognize that we’re navigating this together. If you’re contributing authentically, whether it’s through thoughtful posts, helpful comments, or just showing up and engaging in good faith, you should feel valued here. But to make that happen, we need to set higher standards as a group.

3/ This is not about punishing people—it’s about curating an ecosystem where quality and engagement matter more than quantity. That’s the only way we can build something that lasts. So, as we move forward, expect more emphasis on encouraging authentic contributions and curbing behavior that takes advantage of the system. To those who are here to create, share, and collaborate: you’re the heartbeat of DEGEN, and this is about making sure your efforts are rewarded. Let’s set the tone for what this community can be—because we’re building something special, and it deserves to be protected. We’re all in this together.

Even though I'm not as present and active as I would like to be here on FC (not spammy or engage farmer, just not active enough) and some of the new rules might affect me as well, I fully agree with you. There should be a difference between good engagement/building and all the rest. Keep up the good work and just remember, you are ploughing the field here and don't worry if you're "forced" to adapt and change things as you go, all pioneers had to. There might be people who won't be satisfied, but the truth is you never will be able to make it to everybody's liking, no matter what you do, there will always be those who won't like it and will complain. There's no such thing as free money, if you don't work properly you don't get paid, that's it, end of discussion and people should just roll up their sleeves and start working😉 🤘

A garden with weeds (farmers) needs to be pruned for that garden to grow with top quality. This isn’t just about Degen—it’s about improving the content for the benefit of the entire Farcaster community. And you are an incredible leader.🎩 Let’s keep building and refining together. ✌️

When I joined back in March I feel spam content was incentivized (power badge, tipping, etc.). Even still with openrank and other social scores it feels like you can't casually browse and post on occasion and expect to be seen. I don't know the answer but there's gotta be a healthy way to do this that doesn't punish less active users.

How are ppl making hundreds with no engagement? Quality is also a word that's used a lot...what does it really mean? I fell in love with degen the second i found out about it and the talent involved, this is why my criticisms might sound bitter or harsh.

As one of those whose name was on that list (whose many friends know me and know that there was a mistake and I have never been a spammer!) I want to say here that what Degen has given me on the warpcast platform is something that nothing else has given me, even in my life outside the virtual world, finding friends that I could not connect with anywhere else, continuing the path of art and learning and creating and supporting and being supported. The Degen community has improved my life and I will always be grateful for it and I will always strive for the progress of this family.

1// I completely agree that it is important to protect the ecosystem and promote quality and commitment, but I also believe that the process should be fair and balanced for everyone. I understand and share the vision of building something special, but it is crucial to recognize that the interactions in this community are diverse and authentic, and many people who genuinely contribute have been negatively affected, which harms the rest. The problem with deciding what is "quality content" is that it is something subjective. What for one person may be valuable, for another it may not be, and that is what makes this community rich and diverse. I think we should look for more inclusive and clear ways to protect the system without feeling like a punishment for those who try to contribute in good faith, even if they are not experts or great creators. We all play a role in the operation of this platform, and our effort to support the community and DEGEN should also be recognized.

Agree 100% with this. The economics on this are actually very simple - the more Degen flows to users that create impactful things the more valuable it becomes (and vise versa). Attention on Degen is great, but without the underlying value creation you're not gonna get Degen to $1 (and beyond). But it's not enough to *tell* people to tip others for valuable contributions to the ecosystem - we need TOOLS and INCENTIVES that make it easier to reward great content (and hard to extract value) - that's exactly what we've been focused on with /impact since day one.
