Bread making advice needed :) I’ve been learning how to bake bread with yeast this year. Often I find that my bread turns out quite dense instead of chewy and soft (see the sandwich bread photo below). Does anyone have any advice on how to improve homemade bread’s texture? Any tips and/or beginner friendly bread recipes would be much appreciated! :)

1. Get new yeast just in case 2. Proof in your oven and stick a thermometer in there to ensure it’s warm enough. A bowl of boiling water inside the oven should make it about the right temperature.

I'd recommend Brian Lagerstrom's videos. I've had great success once I started following these simple rules. https://youtu.be/HdoP33KPYtY?si=1WisqQEqsLd_HNnz

Looks to be over-proofed and undercooked. Does it look great out of the oven and then contract as it cools? Aside from using a sourdough starter (which produces more consistent outcomes, in my experience), try one where you err on the side of under-proofing and then adjust from there based on results. I'd also try cooking it a bit longer than you normally would. Could also try the stretch and fold technique if the dough is fairly wet. Good luck!

I bake bread sometimes too, and I may be reaching here but have a machine knead the dough. I feel that if a machine kneads the dough, it will come out lighter and fluffier. I came to this conclusion because of the bakery close to my house. They used the same recipe as us, but used a machine instead of hand and their bread was always fluffy.

I baked bread, in a bread maker, but the recipe can also be used in the oven https://warpcast.com/dalida/0x831a20e9

Use moisture like putting ice cubes in the oven. Use different yeast and leave it for a bit more to mature

I would try a different recipe. Looks like a proofing issue potentially. I have baked a lot of bread and sometimes it is the flour that is at fault also. I have some very easy recipes for awesome baguette and a seeded loaf if you fancy, let me dig them out.

My aunt is a baker and she always told me that the key to make soft bread is use sourdough or let the dough ferment for at least all night in the fridge
