Are 6-10 episode series the ideal visual storytelling device? There's ample time to build character, have multiple plot twists, and have mini arcs within episodes. I've more or less stopped watching new movies, except on airplanes. There's only so much you can do in 90 mins. I often find myself saying, "That would've been so much better as a series."

I'm about 20% of the way through The Children of Men. Initial thoughts: - Big information dump for the first 10-15% of the book. On one hand, there's a lot of world building to do, so I appreciate all the details. On the other, it's pretty much exactly how they tell you to not start novels. Too easy to lose the reader if all your doing is explaining the current state of things. By comparison, the movie used the power of visuals to introduce the world in a much shorter amount of time. - What a premise, though. You can tell a ton of thought was put into the impact of global infertility. How the different generations reacted, how state services changed, and the geopolitics of it all.

📝 NaNoWriMo thread 📝 Throughout November, we're going to be working on a small witting/audio project: the very first FC audio drama! In terms of reasonable goals, I'd say: - Write and record at least one episode (3000-5000 words) Mechanics: - Dialogue will likely require synchronous writing, which might be fun. The characters in a scene can schedule writing sessions and hammer out the scenes - Can keep everything in a Google Doc - Can use WhatsApp or some other chat app for coordination What we know so far: - Audio drama format (mostly dialogue but can have a narrator) - Genre is urban fantasy - Each writer will have a character. What we need to figure out before we start: - Setting - One-sentence plot - Title - 5-6 scenes - A Google Doc to house everything (I'll make that) - One or two more writers! Here's mine: Happy hour at the Tortuga brought about as much joy to this rural Croatian town as a clown to a wake. I had turned my head for no more than a second to check for the last time if the woman to my left would cast her eyes my way. When I turned back, a man had assumed the empty chair across from me. A stranger might have said I was looking at a mirror. Hooked nose, thin lips, fleeting brown eyes, thinning black hair. The kind of face most comfortable in a Turkish prison. It was what the mirror couldn't see that ended any notion of our resemblance. "I won't mince words," he said. "If you play nice, we can walk out of here as associates, friends even. You'll be back in Sarajevo by morning. They'll even send a welcoming committee." "And if I don't?" "Well." He paused, leaving the rest of the sentence to my imagination.
