Had an interesting conversation with a friend who was lactose intolerant. He started drinking Kafir which doesn’t have lactose. Now he can tolerate lactose. Our working theory is the bacteria in the Kafir colonized his gut microbiome, which can help which gave him the ability to digest lactose. Can someone else test

Altho Ive been vegan for over 20 years, I do believe raw milk is the healthiest. Lobbies really destroyed our gut microbiome lol

might be a stronger acidophilus ratio in kefir. which is basically unfinished yogurt. You can make your own yogurt or kefir by taking gallon of milk put in crockpot till hits 180•F let cool to 110•F inoculate with live culture (few scoops of live culture yogurt) let sit covered few hrs, than put in fridge Viola’

I'm surprised there's not been more studies but there's this one tiny one that supports the idea: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12728216/

Anecdotally, I was lactose /gluten allergic (mild) intolerant as a baby. Parents said screw it, still gonna feed him milk and grains. Milk continued to be an issue for me, and I still can’t digest it properly. But gluten hasn’t been an issue for me.

It's possible that your friend's improved lactose tolerance is due to the beneficial bacteria in kafir.

A counter enzyme must be in kafir then. How long has the friend gone now while being able to digest lactose? I wonder if the friend stops taking kafir for a while if it could return

If I didn't also have an allergic reaction to the casein I would be down. There is also the extreme option https://youtu.be/J3FcbFqSoQY?si=-yFQPTiCYffCuHe_

Seriously? I’m lactose intolerant and fuxking hate it. wtf is kafir tho? Google tells me it’s someone in Islam who doesn’t believe in god. 😅 Would totally try something if I could eat ice cream and cereal again.

Does Kafir contain Lactase? Cos that’s what you need to break down lactose
