I'm a bit bearish on tokengated communities but i think private communities are an important unlock. what @rafa brings up about tokengated writes is also cool. i know for a while people enjoyed following the punks discord which was public to read but gated to write

I can't think of the problem without the context of a public network. In this context, I would like token-gating to enable posting, not reading. So, in the way I see it, a token-gated experience allows token owners to write and everyone else to read.

Gating without encryption (privacy) creates FOMO. FC channel writing FOMO.

I could send attestations to every submitter of we love the art and have a channel only for them.

I would maybe do it subject to approvals from the admin of the channel however token-gated channels or groups is just not the same + being tradable is a bug not a feature for exclusive communities IMO

I am currently running a jokerace for my /muse subscribers to vote on. I'm relearning that people are unlikely to participate in this kind of thing when it's not very simple and free to do so, and there aren't financial incentives. Running collaborations in a token gated channel would get way more engagement.

I want token-gated posting, not reading. Curated write access would lead to competing quality in channels imo. Might trigger models to recruit top creators for channels

At Shopify we think about tokengating in terms of “context drivers” (what tokens / context do you have and why) and “context responders” (what do you get with them) - and to me, farcaster is a natural context driver - it’s upstream of the meaningful tokengating

All of the builders and tinkerers here are probably going to say something very useful. But I am not a web3 tinkerer, and I would bet the average crypto pleb (me) would have no immediate use case for it

Token-gated channels plays well with @paragraph publications. I also like @rafa's suggestion to let hosts choose between gating write access only or both read and write access. Gating also creates opportunity for channels to fundraise and operate as a DAO.

I want to start a folklore channel, but only a broadcast of curation. People can reply, but not post.

Private channel for DAO discussions. More decentralized approach than discord.
