The older I grow, the more examples I see of “reversal to the mean” being a cosmic law (not in a karmic sense, more in a statistical/heuristic sense). Whatever shortcuts we take to achieve things, we pay for elsewhere down the road. Rare examples of extreme luck (several σ right of the mean) are just magnified.

This is tautological: the mean distance to success, the minimum distance to success, etc, will always be equal to themselves. The best frame of reference will always thus be self referentially itself and it is impossible for anything to seem longer or shorter.
