-> Farcaster app -> Far protocol The people who like Warpcast like it out of familiarity (I’m one of them), and will be equally happy in a month after the change. The new name isn’t something shocking/hard to swallow. And forever after, new users will enter the ecosystem un-confused, with 95% never even thinking about the protocol.

I don't feel very strongly about the name, but I do feel that the namesake implementation should be permissive OSS. (Or at the very least "open core" perhaps with some closed components that are optional.) That said, I lightly like Farcast = App, Farcaster = Protocol

Observations within our community…we’ve found there is still a bit of confusion when discussing Farcaster/Warpcast to a potential new user. Farcaster as the protocol and Warpcast as the client make sense to the tech-inclined, but it’s a bit convoluted to explain to the average user. Personally feel a more unified name makes the most sense, primarily for simplicity’s sake.

This is a super hard question. I can see the appeal of wanting to just unify the names so that it is easy for users to digest and share etc. but I think calling both the app and protocol Farcaster means you are sacrificing *at least the appearance* of credible neutrality. Now 99% of users don’t care about that but the builders want to know that they won’t get rugged 5-10 years down the road. And the builders are the ones who bring users. By keeping the names separate you help foster a level playing field where other clients can grow.

What about change the name of the app to farcaster and the protocol name can be more protcol-y? Like FCP (Farcaster Communication Protocol) or SDSP (Sufficiently Decentralized Social Protocol)

I was recommended by a friend to join as "Warpcast" and it was a few months later that I learned the name "Farcaster". Even now, "Warpcast" is more familiar.
