Here’s a good example of unnecessarily negative. There’s valid feedback here—you’re not doing a good enough job highlighting all of the developers in the ecosystem / perception of picking favorites—without resorting to a bunch of drivel. You wouldn’t speak like this to someone you’ve never met in-person, so why do it on the internet?

there are also examples of "unnecessary".. positivism.. those who agree without critic thinking.. and these ones can damage much more a society that some out of tone commentaries.. (that said, who choose who is neccesary, neccesary for what or who?) that guy may need to say that.. he or she maybe feeling better now, does not even count? and, we have to admit that this happens all the time.. someone build something and get faded.. then other building the same stuff and is a genious bringing light to all of us poor guys trapped in the plato cavern xd and, what if people speak like that in the street, are you better than them speaking like you speak? would you say it to someone in the street?xd not looking for war, just some valid points, or not?

btw as a follow up, this is another broken reward function you’re quite literally rewarding this character for speaking that way. now, i’m reasonable enough to understand, but you could have just did this on the things i spent weeks building the reward is attention and distribution. i don’t really care if the people who came were happy or mad, it’s simply that they came GL & tx for feedback.

If you’ve ever felt frustrated by the negativity on social media—whether from others or yourself—Leadership and Self-Deception is a must-read. It explains how we get trapped in cycles of blame and self-justification, making conflict worse. Social media amplifies this by encouraging echo chambers and dehumanization. This book helps break that cycle, teaching a mindset shift that leads to better interactions online and in life. Why is this at eye level in my closet? To remind myself daily to stay out of the “box,” see others as people, and not fall into the trap of unnecessary negativity.

Hah yeah I know the type. There was once a GitHub comment with an entire paragraph dedicated to belittling the skills of the developers who wrote the code. At the last line was some useful input feedback. People need to think a bit more when typing feedback. Myself included. I can also be unnecessarily negative.

The unfortunate truth is that *there are* people who would talk like this to someone they've never met. Reminds me of the quote: “When someone shows you who they are, believe them” What they don't realize is that you guys have zero incentive to play favorites and a massive incentive to promote all the great stuff being built on the network. Keep doing you!

Sometimes feelings can override logic, I think you should always try to be the bigger person and understand this most times. Doesn’t mean whatever he did was right, imagine it like you are the founder here and he just wants your attention.

They will accuse you of playing favorites but will ignore your taste, instincts and experience at picking winners. Builders, assume there are reasons your solution or idea isn’t being used and it’s not cause someone “doesn’t like you enough” and that it is not anyone else’s responsibility to provide feedback or explain what it might be.

I consider myself a courteous person, but I have fallen into thoughtless personal negativity with tweets/casts many times. It definitely takes discipline and practice to not do it, and I feel a great sense of shame if it is pointed out to me. I’ve learned that a lot of people, unfortunately, are incapable of shame and empathy altogether. Everything about computers, social and news seems too elevate and promote anti-social actors, if not outright celebrate them. Follower count is not a measure of one’s character.
