remind myself of my highest values and goals and see if that brings clarity if not, look inward at why i’m being neurotic and address that. often it’s because i’m trying to force a decision that doesn’t have any need to be resolved yet if it does need to be resolved right away, i might make a decision in my head just to see how it feels. do i have instant regret y/n

A tip from an old podcast episode on making decisions stuck with me bc the answer was to make a decision after reviewing 47% of the alternatives, based on some sciency-y research Stop after reviewing 47% The specificity was both hilarious and weirdly useful

Pretend someone else is having the problem; then take the advice that I would be giving them

Sometimes I’ll set a timer & give myself 15 minutes to decide or make progress without overthinking

determine if the problem requires a one-way or two-way decision, and if two-way, just choose one and try it out because you can always change your mind https://youtu.be/rxsdOQa_QkM?si=llvGHMZU0EWdizFf

One approach is to write everything out including all the pros and cons of different paths It could be you don't actually have the information you need or it organized in your head the right way. Off loading everything that's in your brain clearly onto notes or a canvas minimizes emotions -> chaos -> confusion -> paralysis Now you can logically see everything and make a logical decision Another context: if you really know all the information but the choices are so close that you're paralyzed: If a coin toss was going to determine, which side are you really hoping it lands (aka gut instinct) when it's mid-air?

Find the smallest thing I can start working on and commit to working on it for 10 minutes (99/100 I'll work on it for another 10 hours after that). If I can't find a "smallest thing" I ask ChatGPT to break it down for me. Then I get annoyed with its dumb answers and go write some code to prove how stupid it is. Win-win.
