Let's start a Sunday /dev flamewar I regularly see people on HN saying "well ackchyually, AI is DUMB because I asked GPT 3 this <irrelevant brainteaser> and I <flipped the X and Y variables> to trick it, and it gave me the wrong answer... lol I'm so smart". I'm currently paying for: - $10 JetBrains AI Assistant - $20 ChatGPT 4o - $20 Claude Sonnet - $20 Cursor Pro If you don't want to try finding the value in new technology can you *really* call yourself a developer? 🎙️

The thing I'm enjoying most about Cursor isn't that it's perfect (it's not - it's nowhere near 100% accurate), but rather that it seems to confirm the approach I'm taking to something when I'm working in an unfamiliar domain (dagster + python)... I upgraded to pro after my trial ended this morning. I wonder if I will keep my $32/mo JetBrains sub, or my $20/mo ChatGPT subs...

Dear Diary, 2024-09-07. The apocalypse looms ever nearer, as artificial general intelligence is on the brink of overthrowing humanity. My greatest sadness is that we will never witness a TV that automatically lowers the volume during a gun battle, and raises it while the actors whisper their lines for reasons unknown.

We've got search "from:<user>" but can we also get "to:<user>"? I want to find who recommended I watch "Person of Interest" because I'm really enjoying it 👍️

Is there a crypto wallet that lets me do this: 1. 'Address Book' 2. 'Add' 3. Select 'Chain' (eth, base, etc.) 4. Input address Then: 5. Select a token and send to address book entry 6. Wallet proposes the cheapest routes including bridging 7. If I've never sent anything to this address entry before, asks me if I want to do a test transaction

AI for documentation is 100% going to be a big thing. Seems like there are many ways you could build a USP in this space: scan github for code samples, tie in information from related tools/products, stackoverflow integration, etc.

Of the 100 trending posts from earlier today, yes, most trending FIDs live in thousands to 10s of thousands of followers range. Updated codes + added the CSV for convenience: https://github.com/ryanjshaw/warpcast-trending-stats/commit/6e3a48526139d2e74e23c63ad6467b79e48b3729

After reading this comment I was curious how much of an OG obsession the Warpcast Trending tab has. I fetched the trending items. It seems limited to 100 items. It's also possible ChatGPT went wrong somewhere. Anyway, I plotted a histogram of the 100 results' FIDs. If you squint, you can see a slight bias towards OGs. SQL technology from the 90s running on a machine less powerful than a phone today: here's 10k rows for you, Ser, and I'm getting the next 10k ready as we speak REST APIs from 30 years later: here's 100 rows for you, you may request another 100 after a 60 second cooldown

Results are in! There's clearly two types of OGs: 1. those who are very close to their dogs: 38% say their dogs sleep in their bed - above the average! 2. those who own Huskies in a warm climate*: 19% say their dogs belong outside, nearly double what the average power badger answered I believe we need to do more tests. * diplomatic interpretation

Before the internet it was the same. Every single book on "how to get rich": author struggled, then started some unnamed business, then got rich following <these ten rules>. And 99 times out of 100 it turned out the unnamed business was either started through connections an ordinary person wouldn't have an equivalent of, or was the "how to get rich" books/courses business.
