Anybody got any theories on why no 3rd party Telegram app has got any traction? Also why there don't seem to be any really good ones? seems there could be ways to monetize them (free with scale + affiliate/txs/ads)

related question: do any big non-telegram websites use telegram for messaging? (instead of building your own messaging stack, allow users to log in with telegram, and pull their message in)

telegram might just be biggest consumer tech company (by DAUs) that is investing heavily in crypto and in a position to onboard 100 million people to wallets

Telegram going the “super app” route with miniapps - WeChat + crypto playbook they are pushing TON and selling Telegram as a distribution network https://ton.org/mini-apps

It seems all services with successful-ish 3rd party clients have lackluster or none officially (native) client.. thinking twitter, reddit.. what else?

I spoke to someone who built a popular TG app (and bots) — Telegram let them succeed for about 3-5 years, then just built all the best features natively in Telegram and effectively destroyed their business

The official client is great enough, no need to have other clients. There's an excellent client Nekogram. It's more cute so obviously more better. Reddit and Twitter clients have features like no ads, schedule post, or simply clean UI.

Do you have any insight @jamesyoung? Collab is the most successful TG bot I've ever used.

probably no one reason but maybe a combination of - their team ships really fast across all platforms and have built a really great product that's very hard to compete with - harder to get distribution of your alt client on a messenger app vs public social - not enough resources invested in promoting alt clients wdyt?

I heard that TG dev team is actually very small… I can only speculate but sounds like platform risk is quite big

there were a few alternatives that i’ve seen a few years ago. i imagine the problem is telegram ships so fast and people want new features that alt clients don’t support.

I believe the core features are there and people don't want more complexity by adding other apps on it.
