Anybody got any theories on why no 3rd party Telegram app has got any traction? Also why there don't seem to be any really good ones? seems there could be ways to monetize them (free with scale + affiliate/txs/ads)

It seems all services with successful-ish 3rd party clients have lackluster or none officially (native) client.. thinking twitter, reddit.. what else?

I think the difference is telegram seems to be closer to being an open protocol than those others - GPL licensing all clients and keeping them up to date makes building a client much easier. Twitter and reddit aren't open source and have effectively shut down their APIs. Telegram seems less likely to do this
